When I think about you

When I think about you
something in me wakes,
not gently, not like morning,
but like a storm that forgot
how to be quiet.
It rises from somewhere
I didn’t know had a name,
presses against my ribs
as if my heart is trying
to become a door.
And I feel everything at once,
too much, too loud,
a kind of love that doesn’t know
where to place its hands.
It gathers in my chest,
sharp, restless, unfinished,
because I cannot reach you
the way feelings expect to be reached.
I cannot touch your face
to calm it down,
cannot tuck these wild emotions
into the quiet of your skin.
So, they stay
unspent,
circling,
learning how to exist
without ever arriving.
And still,
I think about you,
as if distance
is something love might forget
if it tries hard enough.
